Church youth group holds cancer walk

ATHENS, Wisconsin (WAOW)–The youth group of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens held their 15th annual cancer walk on Thursday night.

The rain did not stop people from walking in honor of those battling cancer and those who lost their valiant battle.

“Tonight the weather is not the best, but people suffering from cancer, their days are terrible and gloomy, so we can put up with a little rain to raise some money here,” said Judy Weise, the youth group leader at the church.

Children in the youth group collected donations from people in the city.

Since the walk first began in 2006, $24,430 has been raised. The money will go to the Cancer Center at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
