Columbus girl, cancer survivor designs shoe as a part of program benefiting kids

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) — New sneakers and tennis shoes may be on your kid’s back to school list, but a girl from Columbus belongs to a special group who got to design her own shoe.

“I was shocked! I was like, ‘Can I design a shoe?'” said 12-year-old Lexy McRae.

McRae designed a pair of shoes aptly named “Lexy” as part of shoemaker Saucony’s “Run for Good” children’s show. She is one of five children from the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center in Atlanta selected to participate.

McRae has battled bone cancer twice since 2019 and her mother says she is thrilled she was selected. The shoes went on sale Friday, with proceeds benefiting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

You can buy the “Lexy” shoe or any of the other shoes designed by this special group of kids on the Saucony website.
