START OF NEXT WEEKS JENNIF: ERHE CDC RECENTLY PUBLISHED GUIDELINES ON CHILDREN WEARING MASK AT SUMMER CAMPS. CONNECT TO MORE, MERCY MEDICAL CENTER PEDIATRICAN,R. ASHANTI FOREST. THANK YOU for joining us this morning. >> GOOD MORNING, JENNIFER. JENNIFER: TELL US ABOUT THE RECOMMENDATION. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THIS IS A RECOMMENDATION. DOES NOT SOUND LIKE THEY SAY CHILDREN SHOULD NOT WEAR MASKS. >> THAT’S RIGHT. THIS IS ADC RECOMMENDATION. FAMILIESIL SHOULD FOLLOW THE CAMP GUIDELINES AND THEIR GUIDELINES AND THE POLICIES OF THE JURISDICTION. IF YOU ARE FULLY VACCINED, AND THAT WILL BE FULLY ENABLED, THOSE 12 AND OVER MAY BE. IF YOU ARE FULLY VACCINED YOU DO NOT NEED TO WEAR AR MKAS OUTSIDE. WHEN YOU’RE INSIDE AND THERE IS AN ESSENTIAL FULL SPACE, A MASK IS RECOMMENDED. IT GETS COMPLEX. IF YOU THINK OF MOST CAMPS YOU WILL HAVE HER CHILDREN OF ALL AGES AND YOU GET THE GROUP LESS THAN 12 SO WE KNOW THEY ARE NOT VACCINED. SO IN THAT SITUATION IT IS AGAIN IN THAT SITUATION COMPLEX AND THERE ARE TIMES WHEN CHILDREN NEED TO WEAR MASK. >> IST’ COMPLEX WITH PARENTS WHO ARE NOT SURE IF THEY WANT TO HAVE THE VACCINE. I KNOW THERE MUST BE A BIG PRESSURE TO VACCINE 12 TO 17 YEARS. BUT YOU ALSO COME IN THE 17 YEAR RANGE, THESE CHILDREN WANT TO MAKE THEIR DECISIONS ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT IN THEIR BODY. WHAT’S THERE FOR? >> ABSOLUTELY GHRI THERE IS NO SIZE FOR EVERYTHING, SORRY. WE THINK IT’S A FAMILY DISCUSSION. FOR CHILDREN AGED 12 TO 17 AND ADULTS AGE 12 TO 17, MANY OF THEY REALLY WANT TO GET VCIACNATED TO GET BACK TO THEIR LIFE AS IT IS. ASOU Y HIT 17 AND ABOVE, IT SEEMS THAT MANY COLLEGES REALLY NEED THE VACCINE. SO WE ALSO SEE A REALLY GOOD Vaccination Rate IN THAT POPULATION. GOING BACK TO CAMP W, HATDC C IS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT SOMETHING IS CALLED LAYERSF PROTECTION. AND THAT STILL MEANS HAND WASHING, LIMITED SHARES OF ITEMS IN CAMP. THERE MUST BE ROUTINE CLEANING OF THE ITEMS USED IN THE CAMP Y.DA THEY ALSO EMPHASIZE COHORTS. IN OTHER WORDS, IF YOU GO TO CAMP, INSTEAD OF A BIG HODGE PODGE OF HUNDRED CHILDREN, THERE SHOULD BE GROUPS OF TEN MATCHING LIKE A PACKAGE. TOGETHER WHERE KSID IS VACCINED THAT MINIMIZES THE RISK OF COVID. JENNIF: THERE WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED ON HOW THE NUMBER OF COV INFECTIONS RISES BETWEEN 12 AND 17 YEARS. WHAT IS THE CONCERN IN MARYLAND ABOUT WHAT YOU SEE? >> YOU KNOW THAT IF I’M A PARENT ALL THESE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE Confusing. WE MUST PROVIDE CONSISTENT MESSAGES TO THE MEDICINE. A TAKE HOME MESSAGE I WE ARE NOT READY VICO THE PREDICTION I WE ARE NOT READY. USE COMMON COMMON COMMENTS WNHEUT O AND ABOUT AND WITH YOUR CLDNHI SO KITS ARE GREAT NOT TO HAVE TO RUN MAS BUT WE MUST MAKE SURE OUR CHILDREN WITH MKSAS ARE PREPARED WHEN THEY GO. IF THEY HAVE SOMEONE VULNERABLE TO GET SICK FROM COVID, CHILDREN DO NOT GET SICK, BUT SOMEONE AT HOME CAN POTENTIALLY GET IL. WE DON’T WANT A CHILD TO HAVE THAT BACK HOME TO INFLUENCE THE LEVEL IN THE HOME. ON THE MEDICAL SIDE, WE MUST PROVIDE CARLE AND CONSISTENT MESSAGES. THE MESSAGE I GIVE TO MY PATIENTS NOW WEAR A MASK IF YOU CAN. IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE IN GENERAL THAT IS REALLY SAFE THEN TRY SOCIAL DISTANCE. JENNIFER: Dr. A
