Physical limitations don’t stop teen cancer survivor from pursuing hobbies.

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A 16-year-old Tupelo High School student, who has also survived cancer, doesn’t let physical disability hinder his determination to strengthen his body and pursue a hobby.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Jorden Daniel drives to Elev8 Fitness, assembles his wheelchair and goes inside for an hour of training.

Jorden was diagnosed at four months old with neuroblastoma, an aggressive cancer that mainly affects children. After nearly a year of chemo and radiation at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, he was declared cancer-free. Although he is wheelchair bound, don’t let that stop him. He joined the THS fishing team in his freshman year.

“It gives me something to do other than just school activities and of course I can’t play other sports that people would normally do,” said Jorden Daniel.

Jorden is chairman of the THS Fishing team and participates in tournaments and other competitions. Jorden wanted to develop his upper body strength and went to the gym. Adam Holt, owner of Elevate 8 Fitness, says Jorden has made a lot of progress since he started exercising two months ago.

“He’s shown a strength gain of probably 30 to 40 percent since the beginning, I increase his weight almost every week, he responds well, pushes hard, works hard, he’s a great customer, has become a friend,” said Holt. .

In fact, Holt recently sponsored a fundraiser to help the THS Fishing Team with tournament expenses. Holt plans to raise more money for the fishing team in the future.
In the meantime, he helps Jorden get stronger with every workout.

“I don’t think Jorden has any limitations at all, our goals for the past six to eight weeks have been to improve his strength and increase his mobility,” said Holt.

“I feel that more strength in my upper body will help me with my daily life,” said Jorden.

Jorden will continue his training schedule all summer, he will also get his first job and will fish when he can so that he is ready for the next school year.

Jorden is Allie’s cousin and they both plan to compete in the St. Jude Half Marathon in December.
