CHARITY Bosses of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity is calling on people in Worcestershire to join in on a night to remember.
Together with employees of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, they are organizing a charity ball to raise money for the Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund.
Founded four years ago by Dawn Forbes, pediatric and adolescent oncology nurse, the fund aims to support children and their families through the difficult period of treatment
This year’s ball will be held on September 11 at Stanbrook Abbey, Malvern.
The first charity ball was held in September 2019 at Chateaux Impney, Droitwich, and nearly £8,000 was raised.
Speaking about the importance of fundraising to the Children of Worcestershire cancer fund, Dawn said: “As there have been minimal fundraising opportunities over the past 18 months, the money we raised at first ball has been a lifeline to enable us to continue going to deliver the items that make such a difference.”
The money was used to provide refreshments for family reunions, parties, days out, as well as stuffed animals and custom cakes to celebrate the end of the treatment.
“All of these things help the kids and their families make special memories and of course they deserve to be pampered a little bit,” Dawn added.
“By supporting this event, you’re helping a child undergoing cancer treatment make special memories with their family, and help make their difficult journey that little bit easier. These kids are so strong and brave. Thank you for supporting us.”
Sophie Burt, Head of Fundraising and Community Development for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, said: “The Pediatric Oncology team and their supporters work so hard to raise money for special events, projects and experiences beyond the main NHS facilities.
“Over the past 12 months, funds have been used in various ways to support poor children and their families.
“The pandemic has been a testing time for the families and with the support of the community, The Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund has been able to purchase craft supplies for the children to help them keep themselves occupied.
“With charitable funds, the team can create special memories, buy Christmas gifts and food parcels, and even turn the children’s clinic into a beautiful Santa’s Grotto.”
