Vital funds raised for cancer patients at St Albans gig

Several comedians gave their first performance to a live audience on Monday 17 May, raising £1,000 for CLIC Sargent, one of the UK’s largest cancer charities for children, young people and their families.

Patrick Monahan, President Obonjo, Sandra Hale and MC Peter Merre were the acts taking the stage before the socially distancing crowd at Aspava restaurant in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

A live audience of 68 guests attended the evening which featured food, raffle prizes and comedy, with all proceeds going to CLIC Sargent.

Pia Honey, a longtime CLIC Sargent supporter and mother of two from St. Albans, hosted the comedy night inspired by her daughter’s friend Sarah, who sadly passed away in 2020 from Ewing’s sarcoma. Sarah has been suffering from cancer since the beginning. teenage years and charity has supported her immensely.

Pia felt it was very important to do everything she can to support other young people and their families on their cancer journey. Pia said: “I am delighted to say that the comedy night was a huge success.

“I want to thank all the comedians and locals who got behind it and were so generous with their donations. I’m really proud to be a part of ‘Team CLIC Sargent’. charity contributes to the lives of children and young people with cancer and their families. “Cancer turns the lives of families upside down and it is so important that CLIC Sargent is there to provide all the support they need. It feels great to do my part to help this amazing charity reach those families.”

Last year, CLIC Sargent in Hertfordshire supported 157 families by providing 18 financial grants worth £16,790 to help families meet the costs of cancer.

The charity’s Cancer Costs report found that families with a child receiving active treatment spend an additional £600 per month.
